One Young World

As a representative of my country, Bosnia and Herzegovina, I had an opportunity to join first global leadership summit for young leaders age 25 and under “One Young World” where young people all over the world tried to fix what our leaders failed to do in Copenhagen. The summit consisted of six plenary sessions, each discussing and debating a major global topic. Starting from “The environment and its protection”, “Interfaith dialogue", "Global business and its role in shaping society”, through “The changing power of the media” and “Global health agenda” until “Developing leadership for a positive future”, draft resolution were voted upon, adopted and formally announced. Sessions were guided by counsellors: Kofi Annan, Bob Geldof, John Kerry, Elio Leoni-Sceti, Oscar Morales, Don Tapscott, Alejandro Toledo, Desmond Tutu, Muhammad Yunus and many more.

I am happy to inform you that some of the future leaders, currently ambassadors of “One Young World” are also alumni and students of United World Colleges. As a delegates of their countries Pandit Mami (UWC South East Asia), Adrian Lo (Li Po Chun UWC), Charli Young (UWC Atlantic), Rina Kuusipalo (UWC Atlantic), Aditi Thakker (UWC South East Asia), Jens van Straalen (UWC Atlantic) and Ajla Karajko (UWC Adriatic) contributed enormously to the summit, not only by actively participating in it, sharing experiences, ideas and initiating different projects, but also by expanding UWC mission statement-UWC makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. Currently, we are working on establishing project which has aim to connect  "One Young World" with "United World Colleges" and to inspire as many UWCeers as possible to join next summit in 2011.
