Exchange programme UWC-Adriatic & UWC-Mostar

An exchange programme between UWC Adriatic and UWC Mostar

A week in the life of another UWC is a student’s initiative between UWC Adriatic and UWC Mostar. This student exchange programme is rooted in the idea that whilst both Colleges share the same ideals and mission, each has, and is settled in different cultures and environments. For example the subjects taken and the student population differ between both colleges. Furthermore, UWC Adriatic is situated at the crossroads between East and West Europe, whereas UWC Mostar is in the middle of a divided, post-conflict city.
Given that both colleges are close to each other, working together and learning from each other is not only limited to written accounts and visits, but allows both colleges to strengthen bonds through a student exchange which has never happened before, in which students can experience the college not only during a long weekend visit, but also experience the IB diploma given at the other college, the CAS program, and how students live their daily lives.
For the one week exchange, which takes place between the 5th and the 13th of March, two students from each college will be selected. These students will swap their lives for a week and live like the student with whom they are exchanging. This consists of living in student dorms, following the IB programme and attending all activities and services at the other college in order to experience and learn as much as possible about the other college.
The main aim of this exchange is to strengthen and tighten the bonds between UWC Adriatic and UWC Mostar since they both share a part of their history. We intend to achieve this through seeking dialogue between the students of both colleges to find ways to improve the colleges in order to strengthen the UWC ideas and ideals. After the exchange, the exchange students will bring back their experiences and practical ideas from the other college and they are expected to try to find ways to implement these ideas in their own college.
On a personal level the exchange programme serves to give students an experience of another UWC and the UWC differ amongst each other.
For the future, the ambition is to expand the exchange programme with the other UWC’s in Europe and perhaps even further I norder to create a more inclusive UWC movement.
