Montenegro PW with Roma Kids

Hip Hop, soap operas, Roma dances, Polish Polkas, Indian numbers, old Montenegrian songs...
just a taste of the show that students from the Podgorica Gymnasium, United World College students and Roma children from the Božidar Vukovic Podgoricanin Elementary School put together this week.  Getting a show ready in less than a week is a great challenge but everyone was ready to take it on.  It was not only about performming, it was about making friends by teaching each other new dances and songs, about sharing the tiredness of a long working day and the excitement and the pride of performing  on the stage of the Gimnazija auditorium...

 ......26th of February, 5 p.m., the show.....

The Auditorium of the Slobodan Shkerovic Gimnazija of Podgorica, the school where the elite of the country is educated, is full to the brim. Students, teachers, parents,  school officials, but also the representatives of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, journalists and TV cameras. For one and a half hours 10 students from the United World College of the Adriatic, some 20 students of the Gymnasium and ....52 children belonging to the Roma community entertained the audience with an extremely varied programme. From folk songs to the parody of a latin american soap opera, from pop songs to traditional roma  dances, the menu was truly tempting and the audience expressed all its appreciation and support.

A sparkling kick off event for the CHERI (Challenging Education for Roma Inclusion) project, which brought togther all the performers of this show for  5 days through an intensive workshop carried out on a daily basis between the Gimnazija and the Božidar Vukovic Podgoricanin Elementary School in Konik, Podgorica. Students of UWCAD and of the city centre Gimnazija were given a chance to get to know and work with the local Roima children..and they made the most of the opportunity, taking the first step in the direction of a weekly volunteering activity which will involve Gimnazija students and the less privileged children of Konik. A promising start!
