On Sunday, 25 March 2012 our students organized a memorial football competition in the name of Zaid Akram Khasro. Zaid, an Iraqi student at the college (2010-2011), was taken prematurely from the college community in a fatal car accident over the 2011 summer vacation (Zaid's tribute on our website). He was a hard-working student, a joyful classmate, but most of all a good friend to all. Knowing Zaid, anyone can testify that he was an enthusiastic football player who would never miss a single opportunity to join in a game. For this reason, it seemed to many of the students that a competition, held in his memory, would be the the perfect way for us to remember him.
On Sunday afternoon, over 45 students and teachers gathered at a local football ground to play the game he loved. A competition was run with eight participating teams, each team consisting of five players with at least one girl.

Intense 20-minute games were played with much excitement and a great display of skill and sportsmanship. The competition was tough and led to the final game being played between the Blue Team and Team Price, both having won all the previous matches. After a thrilling final, congratulations go out to the Blue Team, who took home the Zaid Khasro Annual Trophy for this year. Many thanks to all the participating teams and supporters who helped in making this event a great success. The hope is that the cup will continue as an annual event, in lasting memory of Zaid Khasro, uniting students from around the world playing the game he loved.
In loving memory of Zaid Akram Khasro.
