Reunion 2012 ... unforgettable moments!

The 2012 UWC Adriatic Reunion welcomed 120 alumni and their guests for a weekend of celebrations, memories and nostalgia, as well as the possibility to re-acquaint with the UWC Adriatic Community.  The 2012 Reunion was the second year to employ the new format, enabling a multi-generational 3-day gathering: both the 1990-92 and 2000-02 graduates of the college were honoured, as well as those who finished 15 and 25 years before (1985-87 and 1995 – 97) along with guests from other years, covering graduates from ’85 to 2003.  As alumni flew in from all corners of the globe (Russia, USA, Hong Kong, Colombia, Senegal, to name a few) the bond of once being a part of a UWC seems to continue to connect these adults, now with careers and families of their own, as they proved to be still as passionate as ever about their College.

On Friday 15 June 2012, the first alumni arrived in Duino over the afternoon, followed by the first Reunion dinner; the younger generations dined at ‘Al Pescatore’, whilst the older alumni were invited to eat at the ‘Dama Bianca’ down by the Porto.  As more alumni appeared on Saturday morning, all the generations were invited to gather in the Auditorium to meet the new Rettore, Michael Price (2012), who gave an overview of where UWC Adriatic stands today and what it hopes to achieve in the future.  In order to hear the most valued views of our alumni, a question and answer session followed the Rettore’s speech, further developing into the discussion, ‘Action for the future of UWC Adriatic: what can alumni do?’  This served to emphasize the influential role many of the alumni play regarding the future of the College, by exploring their opinions and ideas on how to ensure progress for the school.  To end the day, A BBQ was held on Foresteria Lawn for all the alumni generations, followed by more celebrations with a party in the Auditorium.
The high turnout of alumni for the Reunion this year is only testament to the significance that their experience in Duino had, and still has on their lives today.  For many their two-year spell in Duino was the opportunity of a lifetime, in terms of education, whilst for others it was the UWC ethos and the emphasis on community service to become for some, a lifelong commitment.  At its most basic level the Reunion is a reminder of the fundamental lesson that a UWC student learns through their time at the College; as one alumni put it:

“You might just find that you have more in common with someone from another country than you do with the person who lives next door to you”.

THE REUNION GIFT
Alumni giving is becoming increasingly important, not just in direct support of the College but also as a testimony to demonstrate to other potential donors how much our alumni appreciate the value of the two year spent in Duino.

As has now become the custom, the annual reunion will be accompanied by a Reunion Gift campaign and all alumni from the reunion generations will be invited to join in. We hope you will participate, even if you will not be attending the event.
