Juan Sebastian Delgado
Just 24 years old, Argentinean cellist Juan Sebastian Delgado has developed his educational and musical activity at renowned academic centres in Argentina, Italy, United States and Canada.
Juan Sebastian has won top prizes at several competitions, such as the USA International music competition (Boston 2010), the Latin-American cello festival’s competition (Buenos Aires 2008), the Ravenna chamber music competition (Italy 2007), the Honors chamber music competition (Boston 2008 and 2011), the Young musician revelation Award (Argentina, 2005), the Davis project for peace (USA 2011). In March 2008, he won the competition of the Virtu Foundation which awarded him an instrumental scholarship, a fine contemporary cello.
Born in Mendoza, Argentina, Juan Sebastián started his cello’s studies at an early age with Néstor Longo and at age 14, he did his solo concert debut at the Museum of Modern Art of Mendoza.
In May of 2005, with 17 years old, he won a full scholarship for studying at UWC Adriatic, in Duino, Italy. Moreover, he won one of the five international music scholarships which this important institution gives for studying with the legendary chamber music group; Trio di Trieste and cellist Enrico Bronzi (cellist of Trio di Parma).
Once in Italy, he started performing in a duo cello-piano with Albanian pianist Redi Llupa. Their concerts have brought them to important venues in Europe (Italy, Slovenia, Austria and Croatia), United States, Brazil and Japan receiving great acclaim for their natural and fluent communication.
In September of 2007, he received the conservatory scholarship, the presidential award and the Davis UWC scholarship to do the bachelor of music in cello performance at the Boston Conservatory where he studied cello with renowned Rhonda Rider and chamber music with pianists Michael Lewin and Max Levinson, graduating with honours in May of 2011.
Juan Sebastian’s musical curiosity led him to explore studies in music business, music production and non-idiomatic improvisation at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Since September of 2011, he is attending the Master in Performance program at McGill University in Montreal, Canada where he is studying under the guidance of acclaimed cellist, Matt Haimovitz.
Recent highlights include: a solo recital at Redpath Hall in Montreal (2012) performing works by E. Carter, H. Villa-lobos and F. Poulenc, a tour in United States and Canada with the cello ensemble Uccello (Grammy nominated in 2010), a tour throughout Chile as a member of the YOA Orchestra of the Americas (2012), where he worked with conductors Carlos Miguel Prieto and Benjamin Zander. In addition, he appeared as a soloist with the San Juan Symphony Orchestra (Argentina), performed two solo recitals at the Boston Conservatory, performed at the Boston Schumann festival with celebrated pianist Max Levinson, concerts at Harvard University with the Camerata Latinoamericana, group that worked with conductors Gustavo Dudamel and Andres Cardenas. In 2010, he premiered at the Zankel Music Center (New York) a work dedicated to him by composer Ermir Bejo. He has also performed at the TCU Cello Festival (Texas), Music for Salem: cello seminar (New York), Scotia music festival (Halifax, Canada) and New Music Festival (Boston). In June of 2011, he toured Japan performing a series of sold-out concerts in the cities of Kumamoto, Fukuoka and Nagasaki, as part of the Boston Tango Trio alongside bandoneon player Juan Pablo Jofré and pianist Redi Llupa. In July of 2011, Juan Sebastián was the recipient of the Davis Project for Peace, a grant given by the Kathryn Davis foundation (USA) to do a social-cultural project in the northeast region of Brazil working with children of the favelas. There, he gave music lessons, conducted a string orchestra and performed solo and chamber music concerts.

As has now become the custom, the annual reunion will be accompanied by a Reunion Gift campaign and all alumni from the reunion generations will be invited to join in. We hope you will participate, even if you will not be attending the event.1991-93 Generation 20yr Gift
