Antonella Di Nocera: Back to the future in Duino

Antonella takes part in Trieste Film Fest and returns to Duino

The recent visit to the College of alumna Antonella Di Nocera (1986-88) has given students the opportunity to learn more about documentary film-making and enabled them to take part in the screening of 5 short movies by young Neapolitan film-makers at the 28th Trieste Film Fest – an established festival on Central and Eastern European movies, documentaries and short films.

Since leaving the College Antonella has been active on the cultural scene in Naples, spearheading several projects involving film-making such as Arci MOVIE, the latest of which is FILMaP, based in Ponticelli. This is a suburb east of the city facing considerable difficulties but also with a solid network of organisations actively engaged in improving conditions for youngsters, the elderly and other vulnerable sections of society. FILMaP is a centre for film-making training and production and offers 18- to 32- year-olds a one year course to specialise in documentaries.

This wasn’t Antonella’s first time back at the College since graduation, as she had previously attended a reunion during the summer of 2013. Yet coming back to Duino on this occasion, in the middle of the academic year and with students from around the world present really was a special treat. In her own words:

“Coming back after 30 years was quite a stroll down memory lane. Time seems to have stopped in Duino and memories were still so strong as I walked along the Rilke path on a sunny and chilly morning, then back to Fore court and around the village. But it was also a step in the future as I was invited into Cristina Leban’s Italian class and talked to bright and eager students from all over the world who had come with me to Trieste to watch the short documentary films I produced with young directors in Naples. It was a great pleasure to have them at the screenings and most challenging to answer their questions in class the following morning”.
