UWC Refugee Initiative

UWC Adriatic is committed to doing its part in the UWC Refugee Initiative

Today, 60 million people are forcibly displaced worldwide as a result of conflict, violence or persecution, the highest figure since records began. Half are aged under 21. Many of them have no access to education or had to interrupt  their education process.

For years, UWC has been committed to offering young refugees the opportunity to access quality education which empowers them to become agents of change but we feel we should do more. As part of our new UWC Refugee Initiative, UWC as a family of schools and colleges has committed to greatly increasing our capacity to support students from refugee backgrounds. From 2017 onwards we are aiming to bring in up to 100 refugee students per year on full scholarships. UWC Adriatic will do its part.

Next academic year, we are aiming to have 8 fully funded scholarships for promising young people with refugee /internally displaced backgrounds selected by UWC National Committees. We are planning to have students of South Sudanese, Syrian, Iraqi, Yemenite, Egyptian and Western Saharan origin.

Thanks to our cooperation with the NGO Un Ponte Per, we are particularly proud to be able to give life-changing opportunities to 2 Yazidi teenagers next year (read more).

Please help us raise more scholarships for refugees and internally displaced students.
