On the evening of 16 February 2017 the UWC Adriatic Library opened its doors to hold an international Poetry Reading event with the contribution of College students from Albania, the Bahamas, Belarus, Bulgaria, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Italy, the US, Venezualea and Western Sahara. The students read the original language version of verses written by famous poets from around the world. The languages represented were Albanian, Arabic, Belarussian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Danish, English, Hungarian, Italian and Spanish. Each student also took a few moments to provide information about their selected poet and poem along with giving a brief explanation for their choice of the poet and poem. Each poem was introduced by a short musical interlude capturing the mood of the work by classical guitarist and alumnus Daniel Stachowiak. The evening was rounded off with refreshments and time to meet the student contributors and discuss further the evening’s poetry. The College Library will be hosting similar musical and literary events in the months to come.
