The College warmly congratulates Corinne Ellemeet (1993-95) for being elected to the Dutch Parliament on March 15th. Corinne ran for Parliament with the GreenLeft party and the Student Environmental Sustainability Council immediately sent her their best wishes, thrilled with the fact that an alumna from UWC Adriatic now has an opportunity to make an impact with a carreer in politics at a national level. In her reply to the students Corinne said “I believe climate change to be the most pressing challenge of our generation. That is why I chose the Greens as my political party years ago. As an MP I will be working on health care and culture and media. So no direct environmental portfolio, but there is definitely a lot to be improved when it comes to an environmentally friendly health-care system – think about saving energy, healthy food and more in general the positive impact of nature on our health.”
After leaving the College in 1995 Corinne went back to Holland to study history and then went on to work at the Health department, and for the Amsterdam city government. She later worked for a creative hotspot in Amsterdam and as a director of the provincial “Nature and Environment federations”.She lives in a village close to Amsterdam, together with her husband and two sons.
