Ambassador Ravaglia

Ambassador Cristina Ravaglia supports the Giulio Regeni scholarships with a most welcome personal initiative

On March 14, in the Sala Mappamondi  of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Rome, Ambassador Cristina Ravaglia said farewell to staff and friends after heading for five years the Directorate General for Italian Citizens Abroad and Migration Policies.

The UWC Adriatic community is particularly grateful to Ambassador Ravaglia for having supported and shared the values of the UWC movement and for having visited the College on many occasions and met our students in Duino.

In Ambassador Ravaglia’s characteristically vigorous and enthusiastic demeanor, she delivered a farewell speech marking the importance of cultivating an aptitude for serving the state among future generations of diplomats. In so doing, she stressed that one must serve while maintaining an open mind and an independence of thought that are essential to advise decision-makers while expressing one’s own point of view.

On the occasion of her farewell to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Ravaglia asked colleagues and friends to refrain from making gifts and to donate, instead, in favour of two causes she wholeheartedly supports, one being the UWC Adriatic scholarship initiative in memory of Giulio Regeni for Egyptian students.

Thanks to an enthusiastic response to her appeal, the College’s scholarship initiative for Giulio has now almost reached 70% of the target required for 2018!
