On Saturday April 1st our students visited an Italian city where three of Shakespeare’s plays are set: Verona (in case you’re wondering, the other two are The Taming of the Shrew and The Two Gentlemen of Verona). The group visited the famous Arena (Roman amphitheatre), Porta Borsari, Piazza delle Erbe, Piazza dei Signori, The Scaliger Tombs, the church of Sant’Anastasia, the Duomo, Castel Vecchio and Castel Vecchio Bridge and the Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore.
“Visiting Verona was a wonderful experience!” says Maria (1st year from Peru). “We were stunned by just how beautiful the city is – Juliet’s famous balcony was amazing but there is so much more to see in Verona! I found the city fascinating, especially, its narrow streets surrounding the Duomo, the Arena, Piazza delle Erbe, Basilica di San Zeno and the Castle. A magic spell seems to have been cast around Verona and visiting it was a real treat for all of us”.
