Celebrating Debussy

The first concert of the festival “Note di Spezie. Tutti i Sapori della Musica” is round the corner: join us on Saturday 10 March at 6 pm!

UWC Adriatic is inviting all Debussy fans in the area to a concert to be held in its Auditorium on Saturday 10 March at 6 pm. In collaboration with “Fazioli Pianoforti”, the concert will bring the students of the Purcell School and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to play on the College’s Fazioli piano. The programme is quite a treat: the complete execution of Claude Debussy’s two books of Preludes in order to celebrate the 100th aniversary of the death of the French composer (25 March 1918).

The Purcell School is one of the foremost music schools in the UK and was awarded the UNESCO Mozart Gold Medal for its extraordinary contribution to the music sector, to musical education and international culture.  The department of keyboard instruments of the school is renowned for its educational activities with young, talented musicians, among whom are the two most recent winners of then celebrated BBC Young Musicians of the Year Award: Lara Melda (2010), Martin Alexander Ullman, who also won the Liszt International Piano Competition (2011), and Alim Beisembayev, winner of the inaugural edition of the Junior Cliburn Piano Competition (2015). Many of the Purcell School‘s students are extremely successful at both national and international levels and in 2016 the student Yevgeny Sudbin was nominated Gramophone Artist of the Year.

The piano department of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland has also become a favourite educational institution for UK, European, Asian and American pianists alike thanks to its international teaching staff’s ability in developing and coordinating innovative initiatives aimed at enriching the cultural and performance experience of its students.

Admission to the concert is free of charge
