On Wednesday April 4 our Spanish teacher Pablo Martínez Rosado will present his first novel published in Spain
On April 4th at 6:00 pm in the College Auditorium Pablo Martínez Rosado, the College Spanish teacher, will present to the UWCAD community his first novel Vahana, published in Spain by ETC (El Toro Celeste). Pablo was born in Málaga in 1978. He has worked as a make-believe baker, coffee house barman, occasional bookseller and as a Spanish teacher. Being curious and more than just a little inclined to seek new horizons, Pablo has lived in places as different as London, India and Wales. He currently teaches Spanish literature at UWC Adriatic and continues to fantasize stories, words and possible interpretations of the situation we commonly refere to as life. Vahana is his first novel, but he has previously explored other genres such as short stories and plays. Pablo will be introduced by his Italian colleague and UWCAD alumna Viviana Pace. Some Spanish students will read excerpts from the book, while Indian students will comment elements from their native culture. Alejandro Urilá, a Spanish musician, will also contribute to the event with his fusion music.
Page after page Vahana unravels an India in transition – a country with an identity of its own which nevertheless looks to the West. But there’s more. Be it in Bombay, Mysore or on the maintains in Kerala, exoticism is but a circumstance. Its meanders bring back to mind the real stuff of which the country is made of – its countless stories which carry us away.
