The ECB Generation Euro Competition

The College’s Adriatic Efficiency team among top finalists in the ECB’s competition!

A team of second-year economics students from UWC Adriatic reached the final round of Generation Euro, a monetary policy competition for secondary school students organized by the European Central Bank. Our school’s team thus placed among the top five international schools in the entire euro zone.

In this competition, students are expected to master the intricacies of monetary policy-making in the euro zone, as well as to become familiar with the organizational structure of the ECB. These topics extend well beyond the material covered by the economics course syllabus, and require a great deal of independent study and initiative. All teams were supervised by Marek Hlavac, the College’s economics teacher.

Three teams of UWC Adriatic students participated in the Generation Euro competition this academic year. The most successful of our school’s teams was the team Adriatic Efficiency, composed of five second-year students – Ethaniel Aspin (Belgium), Francesco De Alberti (Italy), Francesco Pietro Loi (Italy), Frieda Thaveethu (Malaysia) and Oskar Walker (France).

The team Adriatic Efficiency impressed a jury of European Central Bank experts with their educational rap music video, entitled “ECB G4ng”, that explains – in a fun but, at the same time, rigorous way – how the European Central Bank achieves price stability in the euro zone.

The European Central Bank featured our students’ rap video on its official YouTube channel.

In addition, portions of the music video were also used in a promotional video about the Generation Euro competition.

More information about the Generation Euro competition can be found on the competition website.
