“UWC Adriatic is definitely a magical place and the secret ingredient is the love between the members of our community.”
David Mercieca – Malta (UWCAD 17-19)
UWC Adriatic was created in a border region beleaguered by cultural conflict throughout most of the 20th century. Times have changed and so have ideologies. Old wars and tensions have ended, including the Cold War, while new ones have begun but UWC Adriatic continues to foster the ideals of peace and dialogue across the barriers and walls of prejudice and hostility.
In August 2017, thanks to the Scholarship Fund five students started their UWC experience here in Duino:
Monia B.K. Alhelou (Palestine), Mohammad Yousef Alshaboul (Jordan), Benjamin Bortey Sango (Ghana), Radu-Ioan Stochita (Romania), David Mercieca (Malta), Laura Figueroa (Spain) and Sofia De Carvalho (Portugal).
“Being given the chance to study at UWC Adriatic was one of the greatest things that ever happened to me. I am so glad to finally be in a place where a student is allowed to explore and venture further into his studies with full support and guidance from his teachers, something which is not very easily obtainable for everyone. UWCAD has not only given me the opportunity and “luxury” of being able to continue my studies on a steady path – it has also given me the gift of finding a home and a family away from home. The friends you make at UWC may leave after their 2nd year but the friendships and memories will never leave your heart and neither your mind. Coming to UWC Adriatic has been the greatest blessing of my life and I can’t imagine not being here. UWCAD alumni know that this is more than just a school, because even though the College focusses on our studies it also gives importance to watching its students turn from strangers into brothers and sisters. At UWCAD the magic doesn’t only happen in the classrooms but it also takes place in those regular coffee meet-ups with a friend or those walks down to porto as the sun sets, the conversations you have with those special people… So, yes UWC Adriatic is definitely a magical place and the secret ingredient is the love between our community members”.

Please help us raise more scholarships for a new generation of students in Duino!
The College’s 2018-19 Scholarship Fund will enable us to provide full scholarships for deserving students, thereby preserving the diversity of our student body – including girls and boys who belong to ethnic and religious minorities or who have disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds. Thanks to the Annual Fund Challenge Committee every donation of 1,000 euro or more will be matched 1:1 by a group of generous alumni!
Thank you for your support!
