Officially presented on March 28th at the headquarters of the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, the project OPEN DOOR – LEARNING AND GROWING THROUGH COMMUNITY SERVICE is an initiative aimed at introducing 16 to 19-year olds in the region to volunteering. Funded by the regional government thanks to funds from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies, this is the first project being launched out of a total of 11. Eighteen regional organizations (associations, schools and youth centres), have come together with the aim of making adolescents more familiar with the opportunities offered by charities in the area thanks to tailor-made volunteering programmes and an online platform.
The project leader is Mondo 2000, UWC Adriatic’s in-house volunteering association, joined by 17 other organisations based throughout the region. Thanks to the College’s over thirty years of experience in the field of youth community service, “Open Door” has started with a partnership of non-profit-making organisations in the region Friuli Venezia Giulia (schools, vocational training centres, youth centres and centres for unaccompanied foreign minors). The initiative is aimed at all young people between the ages of 16 and 19: both high school students involved in internship programmes as well as youngsters who are not in school or who come from difficult backgrounds and can therefore benefit greatly from an experience in community service.
The project has been launched via an online platform “www.open-door.it” which connects supply and demand and where young people can find information on the volunteering opportunities existing in their region and charities and associations can showcase them. For further information: email.
