Students across all UWC schools and colleges come together once again in the video below to call for truth for Giulio Regeni. January 25 2020 marked the 4th anniversary of the forced disappearance of UWC USA alumnus Giulio Regeni while he was doing research work in Egypt. Ever since Giulio’s tortured body was found on February 3rd 2016, UWC has been vocal in supporting Giulio’s parents and Amnesty International in their request for truth and justice and in demanding the same for all victims of forced disappearances around the world – be they in Argentina, Colombia, Egypt, Iraq, Pakistan, Syria or elsewhere.
UWC Adriatic students live in the village of Duino, which lies half an hour away from Giulio’s home town of Fiumicello. As in previous years, on January 25th they attended, performed and spoke at gatherings in both Fiumicello and Trieste which drew large crowds of sympathisers and the participation of Italian political leaders and musicians among others.
Since 2016 our college has also supported the initiative of two Italian UWC USA friends of Giulio’s to offer scholarships to deserving Egyptian students who pass the UWC selections. Initially with financial support from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, these scholarships are still being awarded thanks to an online fundraiser and the generosity of many UWC Adriatic friends around the world. Please contribute to the UWC Adriatic campaign for the Giulio Regeni Scholarships: no amount is too small and each gift will contribute to ensuring that we continue to give deserving Egyptian students with demonstrated needs the chance to benefit from a life-changing educational opportunity in Giulio’s name.
Thanks to the Annual Fund Matching Committee, individual donations of 1.000€ and above will be matched by a generous group of UWC Adriatic alumni.
