The President of Generali visits UWC Adriatic

College students and leaders welcomed Assicurazioni Generali on February 5th

For the past twenty years Assicurazioni Generali has stood by UWC Adriatic’s side and contributed to the scholarship scheme that enables bright young people of promise and potential from all over the world and from different socioeconomic backgrounds to come to Duino and live and learn in a community centred on the values of peace and dialogue. On February 5th last the college community had the opportunity to welcome the President of Generali Gabriele Galateri di Genola on his first visit, along with Emma Ursich, Secreatry General of Generali’s The Human Safety Net Foundation.

Our guests were warmly welcomed by the college President, Ambassador Cristina Ravaglia, our Rettore William Turner and Secretary-General Valentina Bach alongside a large group of students during the mid morning break. The visit provided a perfect opportunity for President Galater to meet the college’s Generali scholar, first-year Ameer Al Hafez from Syria.

Several students took the opportunity to engage in conversations with our guests about the strategic role of education in today’s world and the skills and aptitudes that can best equip them for their professional careers. For the rest of the morning, President Galateri visited the college’s open campus, the academic building and science labs. Upon visiting the economics and chemistry classes he was impressed by the UWC educational system and looked with great favour to the fact that students are encouraged to come forward with initiatives and ideas, making UWC a “perfect breeding ground for entrepreneurship”.
