Ammar is seventeen, he comes from a rural area of southern Iraq and is extremely bright and eager to learn and apply the fruits of his knowledge for the benefit of others. At 16 he was selected for a one-month student exchange programme by the US mission in Iraq (Iraqi Young Leaders), and after that experience he decided to apply to the UWC Iraq selections: Ammar was one of the best of the 130 students who applied to UWC Iraq (30 passed the selections).
Ammar is overjoyed to be in Duino and extremely grateful for this opportunity. His education has been interrupted twice: first by the anti-government demonstrations in October of 2019 and later by the pandemic. After schools closed down, final exams were repeatedly postponed in Iraq, with teachers who tried help students finish the programme outside of regular lessons getting suspended for their efforts to support Ammar and other students like him.
The college needs your help in order to raise the 23.000 euro scholarship for his first year in Duino. Thank you!
