One Day Hackathon

The ideas of young entrepreneurs will come together in Duino on 30 September 2021.

The United World College of the Adriatic, alongside the Ebbene Foundation in Catania and the San Gennaro Foundation of Naples, are launching an open call to collect entrepreneurial ideas from young people aged 17-35 across Italy. This initiative will commence with a One-day Hackathon hosted on 30 September virtually, but based here in Duino.

The underlying theme of this Hackathon is that there is ‘no future without real investment in younger generations’ and will consist of competing and collaborating with others others to come up with entrepreneurial ideas related to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: defeating poverty, quality education, gender equality, businesses, innovation and infrastructure, reduce inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, peace, justice and strong institutions. The solutions must focus on changes which can be made in the region in Italy where individuals are participating.

After the first round of Hackathons which take place across Italy from September to November, successful teams will be invited to the International Proximity Project which will take place at a regional level, but involve an in-person Hackathon in Duino (COVID restrictions permitting) after Winter Break. The best ideas will then receive money and assistance to help make their ideas a reality.

Alex Cetojevic

Croatian Student at UWC

“I immediately believed”, says Alex Cetojevic, a Croatian student of the College, “that participating in the Proximity Hubs and the One Day Hackathon is a wonderful opportunity: the school I attend, the United World College of the Adriatic, aims to make we young people are the bearers of positive change in society. By becoming volunteers of a Neighborhood Hub, this summer we were trained to collaborate with other young people in the area who want to get involved in translating their ideas into concrete initiatives. By doing this we can acquire new skills and enhance our talents to translate our dreams of change into reality.”
