Peace one day

A core UWC value is to make education a force for peace, and this message was at the heart of the college’s Peace One day, UWC day celebrations which took place this Tuesday, 21 September.

Students were challenged by this year’s UWC day theme to Reimagine tomorrow. After watching the inspiring videos interviews given by alumni Aleksandra Wiśniewska (AD 11-13) and Bartosz Ostenda (AD 92-94), students held productive discussions, brainstorming solutions for current problems around the themes of Sustainability, Gender and Sexual Equality, Racial Justice, Accessibility and Ableism, Education and Peace and Conflicts. The global nature of our student body means different cultural perspectives can be shared, challenged and reappraised. Together, students began to construct a vision of how the world can be reimagined, on both local and global scales considering the similarities and differences in the problems people face all across the globe.

The afternoon was then spent playing different cultural games and the day concluded with a spectacular UWC Peace One Day show. Students gave many varied dance and drama performances interspersed with explanations of the vibrant national or traditional costumes worn by many students – a testament to an immense cultural heritage that UWC Adriatic students – as ambassadors of their local communities – aim to disseminate and help preserve.
