Hannah is now in Duino thanks to a scholarship offered by the Never Alone project
Hannah is from Nigeria and she loves writing poems.
Hannah arrived in Italy as an unaccompanied minor in 2018 and before she got to Duino she lived in Catania in the Progetto Dedalo / Volano community, which welcomed and supported her at every stage of her new life in Italy.
In 2019 she started high school – where she studied languages and sciences – and she became a U ambassador for UNICEF. She then heard about UWC Adriatic and from that day onwards studying in Duino with young people from 80 countries immediately became her dream.
So much so Hannah decided to spend her summer studying in order to take an exam in September and go from 8th grade straight into 10th grade to be able to participate in the UWC selections.
Teachers Dedalo and Francesca, volunteers of the Sant’Egidio Community helped her prepare for the exam, but it was thanks to her determination that Hannah was successful both in that assessment and in the subsequent selections organized by the UWC Italian National Committee for a scholarship offered by the Never Alone project.
Today, Hannah is part of this multicultural community that celebrates cultural, economic, linguistic, religious and socio-economic diversity every day. She shares a room in our residence which was formerly the Duino Castle guesthouse with a student from Macedonia and has already shown great commitment to her studies. Hannah’s favorite subject is Philosophy. The other IB subjects she has chosen are History, Biology, English Language and Literature, Mathematics and Italian. She is also involved in a community service with an association that specialises in creating theatre with disabled people.
Hannah’s UWC experience started just over a month ago and each day she is exposed to new discoveries and challenges as she learns to adapt once again to this new environment. Hannah’s determination to be admitted to the College and her passion to learn means it will be very interesting to follow her in her UWC experience. Stay tuned!
