Federica’s video about going “beyond borders” wins a call launched by Fondazione Bracco
says first-year Federica, a student from Veneto attending the College on a scholarship supported by Fondazione Bracco. Last summer, she took part in a call for applications by the same organisation within the framework of the project “Diventerò” (I shall become), a long-term initiative supporting young deserving students across a vast array of educational paths. The call was launched in collaboration with the Italian General Commissariat for the participation of Italy to Expo 2020 Dubai and asked young people to submit short videos on the theme: “Beyond borders: knowledge unites people”. So Federica decided to challenge herself to participate, learning a number of skills from scratch in order to write, direct and edit her first video.
After the video’s submission and summer drew to an end it was time for Federica to start attending the College here in Duino.
Federica had heard about the College through her friend’s parents and her sister also told her what the College was like after she sat her SAT test here and won a scholarship to play soccer in the States. Deeply inspired, Federica knew she just had to try for the UWC selections.
So as Federica began to face new challenges – studying in a foreign language, making new friends, and living in a completely different way – her video was selected in the Under 18 section and included in the editorial plan of the Italian pavilion at Expo Dubai, from October 2021 to 31 May 2022. Federica has had the opportunity to visit the pavilion virtually and has met the other winners of the contest at a Fondazione Bracco event in Milan. The setting of Federica’s video is Venice and in it she describes her personal journey into knowledge and beyond barriers.
