Zoe and Julie win art contest

Two second-year students at our College have received an award for their artwork by the Opera Viva association.

Two of our second-year students in the Visual Arts class have received an award for their artwork by the Opera Viva association.

Zoe Kothari, from India, ranked first in the Illustrations section with Self Portrait with Lotus and Cow. In it Zoe associates the colour green (this year’s theme) to two hindu symbols linked to the concepts of purity and rebirth – the cow and the snake (see picture below).

Julie Saitzova, from the Czec Republic, also submitted a self-portrait (Reaching) that received the third prize in the Collage section. In Julie’s case, gree refers to the metaphor of the green light in the Great Gatsby – a symbol of hope – which in her interpretation is the hope of moving beyond the pandemic (see picture below).

In December 2021 Julie was among the shortlisted artists in the United World Art competition, organised in collaboration with UNHCR.
