Movie Project Week

An independent movie production is happening at the College during Project Week

Project Week started at our College on Saturday 26 February. Unlike last year, when the pandemic made it impossible for students to travel, students will be challenging themselves with different projects both in Duino and throughout the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Some will be involved in hiking projects, others will be cleaning up Carso paths or working on gardening projects, fundraising for a children’s summer camp in Gaza or helping organise a book festival in Trieste. Twenty-three fortunate students have, on the other hand, been selected to take part in an independent movie production.

Actor, director and alum Juan Pablo di Pace (Admission, A.D., Mamma Mia! The Movie) is back in Friuli Venezia Giulia more than twenty years after graduating from the College in 1999 in order to shoot For Another Time, a coming-of-age romance that takes place between 1997 and 2019 with the breathtaking backdrop of Duino. The film is about Matías, an Argentinian filmmaker on his quest to make a movie about his unrequited first love and who gets an unexpected invitation that will alter the course of his future.

“
There is a sacred tenderness in falling in love for the first time» says Juan Pablo «an often all-encompassing phenomenon that we can never cease to wonder once it is over
”

Inspired by the cinema of Lars Von Trier, Luca Guadagnino and Pedro Almodovar, For Another Time seamlessly weaves through formats: found footage from 1997, the past love story, the present and the film that Matías is making.

Several College students have been selected and will take part in the movie’s production: some as actors or extras, others as production, sound, photography and costume assistants: an extraordinary opportunity to gain first-hand experience of different professional roles involved in making a movie.

For Another Time, has been written by Juan Pablo and is being co-directed by him and Andrés Pepe Estrada (Admission, White Elephant, Big For The City). The producers include the legendary Hollywood producer Norman Lear (Act III Productions), Guillermo Escalona (Mil Colmillos, People You May Know), and Off Camera Entertainment. The executive producer is the Terroir Films, a young Trieste-based company set up by producer and director Massimiliano Milic. Part of the soundtrack is by the Trieste-based composer Dorian Dionisi.

«There is no better backdrop for any kind of love story than Italy» said producer Lear.

“
We are thrilled to support Juan Pablo’s vision of bringing a multicultural relationship to the big screen regardless of age, gender or race. And we couldn’t be more excited to support independent film and those who make it
