Anjesa and Katarina have received the Cinzia Vitale Peace Award
Our second-year students Katarina (Serbia) and Anjesa (Kosovo) have won the 2022 Nelson Mandela Peace Scholarship awarded by the association Cinzia Vitale Onlus.
Anjesa and Katarina have jointly written an essay on how they met in the College’s Global Politics class and initially experienced some tensions between them. Over time, their UWC experience revealed their shared humanity, they got to know one another and even beame best of friends. They eventually decided they could agree to disagree about the violence that made enemies of their people, because they both genuinely feel «that the past should be left in the past and that we should shift our focus to the future».
These two College students received the award during the Gala Dinner hosted by the Vitale association in Trieste which also awarded the 2022 Cinzia Vitale Award to Asmae Dachan – Syrian-Italian journalist and ambassador for peace in acknowledgement of her endeavours in promoting solidarity.
