A memorandum of understanding has reconfirmed the cooperation agreement between Trieste’s scientific and academic institutions and local government
On Thursday 16 June, in the Trieste City Council Hall, in the presence of the Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, the Dean of the University of Trieste Roberto Di Lenarda and the Councillor for Education, School, Family and Youth Nicole Matteoni, a new version of the Trieste City of Knowledge memorandum of understanding was signed. Participants included the President of the City Council, Francesco Di Paola Panteca, and representatives of the scientific and academic institutions that have come together and formed this network, including our College, represented by the Deputy Vice President, Patrizia Pavatti.
Launched in 2007, the “Trieste City of Knowledge” Memorandum of Understanding has given rise to the active collaboration of various institutions located in Trieste, joining the city government to national and international scientific and academic institution for the purpose of facilitating dialogue and promoting joint initiatives. The city of Trieste has a very high potential for development, and aspires to become a European knowledge hub, increasingly attracting international students and researchers and establishing solid collaborations with the corporate world. This network – named Trieste City of Knowledge – aims to provide concrete solutions in this direction, by promoting closer relations among local government cademic and scientific institutions.
In the first 15 years of this network’s activities, numerous projects and collaborations have been successfully completed and many objectives for the dissemination of hard sciences and humanities have been attained: first and foremest the annual festival Trieste Next. In recent years the number of partners that have signed the memorandum has steadily increased, testifying to the importance of networks between local institutions and government.
The municipal government, which initiated and coordinates the memorandum, now intends to relaunch its activities with an eye in particular to developing scientific educational tourism and by providing opportunities for schools and local researchers to meet.
says Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, «They say that getting together is a start, staying together shows progress, and continuing to work together means success. We all believe in working in earnest as a team, with an aim to enhancing the potential of science and knowledge, for the benefit of Trieste, our region and the entire country».
«The memorandum that we are reconfirming today is the tangible result of the apparently invisible synergy that binds all our institutions», added the Dean of the University of Trieste, Roberto Di Lenarda, «a collaboration that makes our territory a rich and attractive research and higher education ecosystem, capable of competing with the best international institutions».
«Trieste City of Knowledge, said Councillor Nicole Matteoni, «embodies our shared commitment and contributes to enhancing the diverse potential of the scientific system – a unique asset for the development of our territory. I strongly believe in the importance of fostering ties between our schools and after-school facilities with research centres as a an invaluable further opportunity for our children and youth.
