Harvard UWC Impact Study

What elements of a UWC education are most influential in encouraging ethical habits and pro-social actions in young people?

Five years ago UWC started a collaboration with The Good Project of Project Zero, a leading research centre at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

UWC chose to work with them because of their deep expertise in educational research, with a particular focus on good citizenship, ethical behaviours, and the overall contributions of individuals towards creating a good society.

Those are precisely the kinds of leadership attributes that our students are called to embody at the United World Colleges. And that is what this research has investigated: exactly what elements of a UWC education are most influential in encouraging ethical habits and pro-social actions in young people. We hope that this will help to guide UWC and other educators in focusing their energies on those elements within the educational framework.

Watch the video above to hear the key reflections by Faith Abiodun, Executive Director of UWC International and find the full report below. You can also find a full set of resources regarding the report on the dedicated UWC International site here.

UWC Adriatic is also pleased to share with you the informal report about our College, written after the research team visited our college Duino in January 2020. We are proud of the many positive findings and appreciate the areas of improvement that have been identified. Most of the latter we had started to address under Rettore Will Turner’s guidance before the Harvard team’s report was finalised.
