Art and environmental sustainability, mental health, healthcare, sports and urban regeneration: these are just some of the topics addressed by the 20 winning projects from all over Italy in the International Proximity Project contest promoted within the framework of the Welfare di Prossimità.
Financed with funds from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies and implemented in partnership with the Èbbene Foundation (Catania), and the San Gennaro Foundation (Naples), Welfare di Prossimità is an ambitious project that encourages initiatives and entrepreneurial ideas among Italian youth.
Among the College’s important impacts is to promote youth leadership opportunities and initiatives throughout the country through supporting networking activities and continuous exchanges among its students and the local community. Within the framework of the Welfare di Prossimità project, these very principles have scaled up to the national level thanks to this partnership, whereby the College has supported six groups of young people from three regions of Northern Italy.
These young people’s commitment went beyond the implementation of their individual projects and also took the form of the Humanitarian Aid social service at the College in which some of our students, volunteers of the College’s Proximity Hub and with the support of an expert psychologist, helped some families in difficulty.
Among the winners of the International Proximity Project, Avanguardie Verdi is a project conceived and implemented by two UWC Adriatic alumnae, Valentina Dereani (UWCAD 20-22) and Marta Salvarani (UWCAD 20-22). Through the scientific dissemination performance “A qualcuno piace caldo” (Some Like it Hot), and the organisation of the exhibition “E luce fu. La materia illuminata” (Then there was light. Lighting up Matter), Avanguardie Verdi investigated the link and the interconnections between art and environmental sustainability, while giving space and visibility to emerging young Italian and European artists.
