In the EU March 6 marks the Day of the Righteous and UWC Adriatic has joined in these celebrations since 2020, when it established in the garden of its student residence Villa Lucchese a Garden of the Righteous of its own and named it after UWC alumnus Giulio Regeni. 18 trees there display the names of people whom the College community wishes to honour for the good they have done for others and whose brave and compassionate actions can inspire anyone who visits the garden.
This year’s March 6 celebrations were held in a special school assembly dedicated to sharing with the College community the 7 new names that have been added to the trees in a different part of the College (Fore Courtyard): Gino Bartali, Ada Gobetti, Tina Anselmi, Alfred Hirsh, Sandra Liliana Pena Chocué, Angelo Cella and Floribert Bawana Chui (motivations in the slideshow above). 25 trees in Duino now constantly remind the College and village communities that there are many different ways in which each individual can make a difference in the world.
