The visual arts are an integral part of our everyday life, permeating all levels of human creativity, expression, communication and understanding. In an educational institution like UWC Adriatic, that celebrates diversity and individual promise and potential, every year Lorella Veglia’s Visual Arts Class is attended by many students with a genuine passion for creative and artistic self-expression.
As required by the IBDP, these students spend two years working at a personal exhibition in a thought-provoking course in which they develop analytical skills in problem-solving and divergent thinking, while working towards technical proficiency and confidence as art-makers.
For the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, this year the College was able to open its students’ IB Exhibition to the local community. On Sunday 12 March, ten of the College’s second-year Visual Art students and their teacher Lorella Veglia proudly gave tours of the exhibition located in and around the Auditorium.
As ever, the themes explored by the students were very diverse. They included, among others, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on young people in China, the lack of freedom of self-expression of Iranian women, the impact of contemporary society and its norms on our sense of self and the distorted perception of reality and of oneself in adolescence. Now that the exhibition is over the students’ artwork will be evaluated by the IBO. We congratulate them for their passionate work and wish them all the best of luck!
