Nelson Mandela Peace Scholarship 2023

This year the Mandela Peace Scholarship was awarded to our Ukrainian and Russian students

The College students who have received the Nelson Mandela Peace Scholarship this year are the Ukrainian first-year student  Yelyzaveta Shelest and the Russian second-year student Sofiia Konovalova. These two students received this scholarship in Trieste at the Gran Galà di Primavera, the annual event organised by the association Cinzia Vitale Onlus.

“
I am truly delighted that this year – ten years after the passing of Nelson Mandela – the scholarship in his name is going to a Ukrainian and a Russian student at UWC Adriatic. Despite the fact that their countries are fighting one another, the friendship between Yelyzaveta and Sofiia proves that hate is not inevitable and peace is always possible
”

Said the journalist Roberto Vitale who is also President of the Vitale association.

“
Indeed, at UWC Adriatic –- where students from over 80 countries live and learn together for the final two years of their high school education – we have been seeing for four decades now that peace is the result of genuine dialogue. At UWC Adriatic students from countries that are experiencing tensions or even war often meet and succeed in overcoming prejudice and stereotypes, proving that education truly is a force for peace
”

Said ambassador Cristina Ravaglia, the College President.
