‘Nuovi Eroi’ meets Fatima

The story of how education can change lives

Born in Morocco, Fatima Zahra El Maliani (UWCAD 2017-19) has faced challenges since childhood: from joining her mother in Turin and the problems of the Porta Palazzo neighbourhood where she grew up, to meeting people who saw a special spark in her and helped her shine. Now, an episode of the series ‘Nuovi Eroi’ (dedicated to all the people honoured by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and broadcast on RAI) retraces the entire path taken by our former student.

Valuable encounters with figures such as her professor Anna Fronda and the educators of the Youth Missionary Service shaped her social and academic commitment. Thus, her destiny became intertwined with UWC Adriatic, where she discovered the power of a unique education and where the events she experienced during Porject Week confirmed her dedication to community service.

Through this story of rebirth, the universal values of the United World College emerge: empathy, solidarity and transformation through education. Fatima, with her project to spread knowledge in after-school classes, and her dream of becoming a lawyer to protect minors, represents the essence of an education that changes destiny.
