Michele Boldrin, an internationally renowned economist, academic, and YouTuber, is an expert in economic growth, business cycles, technological progress, and intellectual property. He currently teaches economics at Washington University in St. Louis, where he also serves as co-director of the Centre for Dynamic Economics (CEDEC).
Professor Boldrin first heard about the United World Colleges movement from acquaintances who he discovered had attended UWC. Recently, he decided to actively support UWC by promoting a fundraising campaign on his YouTube channel to raise two scholarships for young Palestinian students from Gaza to attend UWC Adriatic.
From September 19 to 20, Boldrin, accompanied by his partner Susanna Panfili, visited our College and attended the Opening Ceremony of the 2024-25 academic year. During his stay, he met with second-year economics students, the Politics Council group, as well as alumni, faculty, and our Rettore. Luke, an Irish student, shared his thoughts on the visit:
Susanna Panfili, an artist, also took the opportunity to explore the College. She visited the art centre, met with the Visual Arts teacher, Lorella Veglia, and interacted with several art students, fully participating in all the activities during their visit.
Impressed by their experience, on their return home they shared their positive reflections about UWC during a live broadcast on Professor Boldrin’s YouTube channel. The event, held on September 29, focused on the UWC Italia call for applications and featured Marina Macchiaiolo, President of the Italian UWC National Committee, Valentina Bach, Secretary General of UWC Adriatic, and two current students, Letizia and Alessandro. The application deadline is October 31, and we are very grateful to Michele and Susanna for their contribution in helping bring this opportunity to the attention of a greater number of Italian students and parents.
