Closing Ceremony 2025

Celebrating an academic year filled with emotions: Closing Ceremony 2025

On Saturday, 24 May, our College celebrated the Class of 2025 with an emotional end-of-year ceremony at the “Marlena Bonezzi” Municipal Theatre in Monfalcone.

Surrounded by their families, teachers, and supporters, our 186 students from 82 nations marked the end of a transformative journey built on intercultural understanding and shared values.

“
May you always have the courage to believe in your dreams, and the humility to place them at the service of others.
”

Roberto Antonione, President of the College

This year’s closing ceremony was filled with performing Arts. From classical music by our College Orchestra, to a-cappella singing by the Gentlemen and the Donne of Duino, to a lively group dance to When I Kissed the Teacher with staff members (and much more)  the arts remain an essential part of our educational model.

Our guest speaker and alumna Pilvi Torsti (UWC Adriatic 1993–95), now Director of the European Training Foundation, reminded students that the UWC mission must remain accessible to all, and urged them to live and act as the best version of themselves with everyone they encounter.

“I was sitting like you today in 1995. If someone had asked me then to imagine the year 2025, it would have seemed very far away — just as 2055 seems now. But time passes quickly. So look after what is dear and important to you. Cherish your dreams. Make them real. And more.”

Dr Khalid El-Metaal also urged the community to use its “superpower”: the ability to shape and share stories of inclusion and justice:

“Creating stories not of separation and supremacy, but of interdependence and belonging. Narratives that extend the at times unruly, but always open-hearted and generous, sense of community and belonging that they have lived in Duino — to the whole planet, its people, its creatures. Let’s make it a liveable future for all.”

The event also recognised the top students in Italian language learning, highlighting the importance of cultural immersion as part of the UWC Adriatic experience and reinforcing the College’s commitment to fostering deep engagement with the local context.

At the end of the ceremony, the UWC Adriatic Class of 2023–25 graduated and performed their generation song, Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis. There were many tears, hugs, and memories shared.

“At the College, there is space to engage in idealism but the question is whether or not I will be able to extend that idealism beyond my life at Adriatic. Will I, will we continue to fight for what is important? I would like to believe that the answer to that question is an emphatic YES.”

A special word of thanks to our first-year students Marta (from Belarus) and Marco (from Italy) for graciously serving as Masters of Ceremony; to Hanna (from Italy) and Florence (from the United Kingdom), who spoke as representatives of primi and secondi respectively; and to all the students (and staff) who delighted us with their performances.
