To ensure an effective and informed governance, the UWC Adriatic Endowment Fund is an asset of the UWC Stock Weinberg Edward Sutcliffe Foundation, a separate foundation to the College registered in Italy.
Established in 2015, the UWC Stock Weinberg Edward Sutcliffe Foundation is a charitable foundation registered in Italy in order to support UWC Adriatic and the UWC movement.
The Sutcliffe family were instrumental in the creation of the Foundation in 2015, together with Liliana Stock Weinberg, and since then they have been joined by other Founders and supporters. Thanks to the generous support of David Halpert, in 2018 the Foundation bought the Duino Park Hotel which is now Purnama House, the newest residence for students at UWC Adriatic. The UWC Adriatic Endowment Fund is the fulfilment of a long-term vision of David Sutcliffe and of the founders of the Foundation.
With an endowment in place, we ensure scholarships for generations to come. Established in September 2023, the UWC Adriatic Endowment Fund is a way for us to be more financially sustainable. In fact, Endowment gifts provide long-term financial support for the College and its scholarships, essential for maintaining sustainable operations at the College. Donations to this fund are not used immediately to cover costs — they are invested in perpetuity.
Each year, many Italian students are offered the opportunity to study at one of the 18 schools and colleges in the UWC movement. This is made possible through the Fondo Solidarietà Genitori: a promise that each family makes to give generously to help others with an annual voluntary contribution
Together, these contributions help create additional places for talented young people selected in Italy, who would otherwise be unable to access UWC’s unique and life-changing education.
Parents and families of UWC Italia students can contribute to the fund through the dedicated bank account of the UWC Stock Weinberg Edward Sutcliffe Foundation.
The Foundation is seeking other partners – both corporate and individual – interested in developing UWC Adriatic’s real estate assets.
The objective involves developing the college’s financial assets, in order to diminish UWC Adriatic’s need to rely on yearly contributions. This would enable this outstanding international educational institution to thrive at a time in which a multicultural education can play a particularly strategic role, enabling the college to continue to be looked upon as a beacon of excellence in education the world over.

Purnama House, formerly the Duino Park Hotel, is the seventh and most recent residence at UWC Adriatic. Purchased in 2018 by David Halpert (UWC Adriatic 1983-85) and generously donated to the UWC Stock Weinberg – Edward Sutcliffe Foundation, the building underwent significant renovation starting in 2020. With 17 en-suite rooms and two apartments for teachers, Purnama House was officially inaugurated as a student residence in September 2022. This new facility enhances the college’s capacity to provide a comfortable and supportive living environment for students and teachers alike.
The governance of the Foundation is structured according to its Statute and includes the Management Board, the President, and the Steering Committee.
