A project aiming to deal with refugee policies and the actual situation in refugee camps in Vienna
The focus of this project was to gain a better understanding of UN and EU migration policies on the one hand, and of the actual situation of Ukrainian refugees in Austria on the other.
Mihailo (Serbia), Jovan (Montenegro), Omar (Jordan), Yousuf (Irak), Haya (Lebanon), Sarosh (Germany), Kaan (Turkey) and Elma (Bosnia-Herzegovina), spent a week in Vienna. There they visited the United Nations headquarters and interviewed a representative of the UNHCR. These students also visited a centre for Ukrainian refugees run by the Red Cross and Caritas and interviewed someone who has been part of the Ukrainian refugee emergency team since the beginning of the war. They also volunteered to help Caritas distribute clothing to the refugees. This experience was emotionally very challenging as our students had first-hand contact with people who little over a year ago lived normally in their country but are now displaced, far from home and greatly in need of support. Now that they are back at the College these students will put together an article which will be linked to this page in due course.
