The College’s 8th Volunteering Fair

“Healing actions” was the theme of this edition

On Saturday 15 April, UWC Adriatic held the eighth edition of the Volunteering Fair, this time open not only to students and teachers in the area but also to anyone interested in the event. The theme chosen this year was ‘Actions that Heal’, which refers to actions targeted at others, at oneself and the environment.

Throughout the morning, the participants were able to interact with College students and heard their testimonies regarding their commitment to community service, which is a fundamental component of their education and personal growth throughout the two-year period they spend in Duino.

In addition, some of the associations collaborating with the College were also present with their proposals for volunteering activities, illustrating the many different ways in which positive actions can generate change in the world: DONK – Humanitarian Medicine, Oltre Quella Sedia, Progetto Martina of the Trieste and Duino Aurisina Lions Clubs, Centro Educativo Occupazionale (CEO) in Malchina, Comunità di Sant’Egidio and WWF.

The message conveyed to young people in the various meetings and workshops of the Fair was that in order to grow and develop one’s potential and succeed as agents for positive change it is essential to develop a capacity for empathy as well as communication skills. In this respect, social work is a powerful educational experience.

The 2023 Volunteering Fair has been organised thanks to support from the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
