Following the successful first concert of the season “Note di Spezie. Tutti i Sapori della Musica”, on Saturday 17 March at 8.30 pm the trombone ensemble “Slide&Friends” will perform in the College’s Auditorium
The second concert of the season “Note di Spezie. Tutti i Sapori della Musica”, organised by the ICMA (International Community Music Academy) of UWC Adriatic is fast approaching. This time the audience will be treated to a performance by the trombone ensemble “Slide&Friends” on Saturday 17 March at 8:30 pm in the Auditorium.
“Slide & Friends” is a chamber ensemble consisting of a variable number of musicians who are, in the main, trombonists – hence the first part of the group’s name “slide” refers to the part of the instrument that is extended when playing the trombone, while “Friends” indicates both the camaraderie among the performers and the fact that other instruments are also played by the ensemble (trumpet, tuba, horn, percussion).
The group was formed in 2015 by musicians from the Santa Cecilia Music Foundation of Portogruaro and the Conservatory of Venice wishing to make the public more familiar with this instrument and its repertoire – which includes both original music scores and transcriptions, ranging from Renaissance music to movie soundtracks. The group also wants to be an open educational and training laboratory, with the active participate of professional musicians, students and amateurs.
“Note di Spezie. Tutti i Sapori della Musica” is the ICMA’s 2018 season funded by the regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia in partnership with the municipalities of Duino-Aurisina and Povoletto, Gruppo Folkloristico di Passons, Coro Jacobus Gallus di Trieste, UWC Maastricht, the College’s volunteering association Mondo 2000, Associazione Culturale Musicale di Bertiolo “Filarmonica la prime lûs 1812”, the association New Virtuosi and the association “Scuola per Giovani Musicisti” European Spirit of Youth Orchestra. The season offers a world music programme in order to enhance cutural diversity and music’s role as a means to understand and familiarise with different cultural heritages.
