The Library Events Committee at the College recently organised another event for poetry lovers
Hearing poetry is a delicious pleasure; and hearing a poet actually read his or her own work is a real treat. This was all the more so on the evening of April 6, when Room B in the library looked very inviting thanks to the presence of the artwork of the IB Exhibition by Nicole Pagnut (Italy) and Luisa Heindl (Germany).
Daniil (Russia), Leone (Belgium), Lucia (Switzerland), Marcelo (Venezuela), Maya (Russia) and Uladzislau (Belarus) shared the poetry they had selected: some poems they had written themselves, some written by friends of theirs and some singled out because of its very special meaning. As always the readings were accompanied by music played by alumnus Daniel Stachowiak.
The event was appreciated by all participants because contributors enjoyed a refreshing opportunity to share the thoughts, experiences, hopes and dreams about themselves voiced in their selected poems. As Robert Penn Warren reflected: “For what is a poem but a hazardous attempt at self-understanding; it is the deepest part of autobiography.”
